Before the advent of central air-conditioning tin roofing was the norm. The tin was sturdy, long lasting and reflected the sunlight keeping the home cooler. When air-conditioning became common darker roofs made of cheaper materials came into vogue. But was that wise? Possibly not. I've run across several articles recently that lead me to suspect that lighter colored or reflective roofs just may be making a comeback.
